It’s the last international break of the season, and thus, Manchester United are currently off until March 30. We don’t have a game to talk about for awhile, but there are plenty of transfer rumors to discuss. The summer transfer window doesn’t open for awhile yet, but the futures of many key United players remains up in the air.
Let’s take a spin through the inter webs and see what’s buzzing in Manchester United cyberspace right now.
There is definitely a Spanish flair to this edition of United transfer talk, and we start with a Spaniard duo who will see their contracts expire in 99 days, and will then be able to move on a free in Juan Mata and Ander Herrera.
Regarding the latter, we covered him in detail, over at this link, as Paris Saint-Germain appear to be swooping in on making a potential move, and United fans are justifiably upset about it.
Herrera is such a popular, stellar and important player that many are wondering why his contract talks aren’t going anywhere. Mata, although now primarily a bench player, is one of United’s best team leaders, and overall good guy in the game of football.
However, the Daily Mirror writes that the club refuses to be held ransom over their wage demands, and that that is what’s led to talks stalling out.
Representatives of both players are said to be asking for exorbitant wages for their clients to agree to stay at United beyond this season.
United are unwilling to meet those demands for Herrera and Mata, 29 and 30 respectively, which has led to a stalemate in talks with their camps.
Staying with a Spain international, and one whose contract talks have stalled out (and linking back to the Mirror once again), we return to the transfer saga of David de Gea. Stop us if you heard this one before- Real Madrid is interested in bringing him back to his hometown!
Yes, this transfer rumor is an oldie, and not a goodie, as it just won’t go away until he pens a new long term deal.
Next we move on to Jadon Sancho, United’s top transfer target this summer. The England international retweeted a link to an interview where United club legend Rio Ferdinand advocated he move to Old Trafford this summer. Sancho, quickly realizing the stir that would cause from people reading the social media tea leaves, then deleted the post.

Finally, Philipe Coutinho to Manchester United? Does that seem more than a bit far-fetched? Our last item comes from Metro who cite that “Goal claims that a move to Old Trafford is not likely as Coutinho is ‘put off’ by the prospect of returning to the Premier League as his family failed to settle in England.”
