PSG Pursuit Leaves Ander Herrera with Uncertain Future at Man United

In exactly 99 days, the contract between Ander Herrera and Manchester United football club will expire, leaving the midfielder available to move on a free transfer. Contract extension talks have been ongoing, but there doesn’t seem to be much progress right now.

The native of the Basque region of Spain reportedly wants to stay, but with Paris Saint-Germain seemingly swooping in, it remains to be seen what will happen. ander-herrera

ESPN writes that: “Herrera is in a strong bargaining position over his future, with PSG keen on capturing such a high-quality player on a free transfer to fill an area of need with wantaway midfielder Adrien Rabiot set to leave the French champions for nothing this summer.”

The article also says that Herrera wants to stay, and given his outward public persona, one can certainly assume that’s true. The 2016-17 club player of the year is about as rah rah as any individual in the squad, and certainly no one gets as fired up for the Manchester Derby rivalry as Herrera does.

Herrera is more than one third of the first choice midfield with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic. He’s one of the club’s most important leaders in the dressing room.

The website Balls.ie state: “both Spanish outlet Marca, as well as RMC Sport report that a deal has been agreed” between PSG and Herrera’s representatives

That link also conveys the backlash that we are seeing from United fans right now at the prospect of Herrera leaving the club. If the deal actually happens, it would be extremely unpopular among the MUFC supporter base.
