Frank de Boer, who succeeded Sam Allardyce in June as Crystal Palace manager got the sack today after just 77 days in charge of the London club. He lost all four of his Premier League games this season, with the Eagles failing to score even once, marking the worst start of any top-flight club in 93 years.
Still, it’s somewhat surprising that he got the axe while the season is still so young. While it may be surprising to some, it’s not surprising to Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
“That’s the world where we are, that’s the world where many of you enjoy and also contribute for the kind of the kind of pressure that managers are involved. But in football nothing surprises me. Nothing surprises me. I was sacked as a Champion. Ranieri was sacked as a champion,” he told reporters at his news conference today previewing United’s UEFA Champions League clash against FC Basel tomorrow.
“Frank de Boer is sacked four matches and next season something incredible again, so nothing surprises me anymore.”
