Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has, on several previous indications, made comments that give a strong indication of a coming summer clear out. Especially so after the abysmal showing at Brighton & Hove Albion, a 1-0 loss, last Friday. Ahead of Thursday night’s dull and goalless draw with West Ham, which ironically clinched second place for the Red Devils, Mourinho once again made it known that some cuts are coming to Old Trafford this summer.
This was perhaps his strongest signal yet. He said of some players on his roster, without naming names, “I don’t believe they are going to make it.” Go here for the link to our our list of eight players who might be leaving United this summer.
“How many points separate us from Manchester City?” Not two, three or four. A lot of points.,” Mourinho said.
“Some of the people we have, they have to be more consistent in their performance and we need more quality. I trust some more than others that can bridge that gap. That’s normal. I know the players. I worked with the players for a couple of years, so I know them better than anyone.
“And of course, some of the players I am totally convinced are going to make it, some others I have good hopes that they are going to make it and some others I don’t believe they are going to make it. In my squad, I have some players where I would like to have better than what I have. That’s basic.”
With Romelu Lukaku injured, the attack has struggled tremendously. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford haven’t been able to rise to the occasion, and thus it’s plain to see why both have been consistently linked with a move away in recent weeks. Martial has been linked to Chelsea and Juventus, among other clubs.
