Manchester United have already checked off the central defender box on the summer shopping list (with Victor Lindelof), and it appears they are possibly moving on to central midfielder or striker next. In the midfield, United are looking for a long term Michael Carrick replacement, who could be paired with Ander Herrera, allowing Manager Jose Mourinho to position Paul Pogba further up the field.
Perhaps Fabinho is that guy, and this idea received a significant boost today with eye-catching remarks made by the 23-year-old Brazilian. Fabinho says the idea of moving to United is “tempting.”
Fabinho was asked how he would handle an approach from United on Brazilian TV show Esporte Interativo (transcript via The Independent).
“It’s a tempting invitation,” the Monaco man responded.
“I would first talk to my agent, Monaco too, to decide everything right. But it’s a great club, sure enough I would think well about it,” he added.
Add it would make a lot of money, whether that’s in pounds, euros, madden coins, etc. a huge pay day awaits him at Old Trafford. United went to Monaco for a major 2015 summer transfer window signing, purchasing the contract of Anthony Martial on deadline day that year. Fabinho has been linked in transfer rumors to United for several years, but this time the narrative takes on another level given the intriguing public comments made by the player himself.
The other main deep midfielder target linked to United this summer transfer window has been Nemanja Matic at Chelsea. The idea of Matic reuniting with Mourinho is also tempting to United fans, but it could hinge on the Blues ability to snatch away a teammate of Marquinhos, Tiemoue Bakayoko.
It’s hard to imagine that Monaco would be part with both players this summer, and if they did, the transfer fee for both would be quite high. United have also been linked with a move on Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier, but that move is actually rather unlikely.
