Liverpool-Manchester United is a rivalry that impacts sports fans all over the world. The northwest England blood-feud competition exists in the hearts and minds of supporters globally, as both clubs have a massive following on every continent.

On Thursday we saw an incident in Australia, where United are currently training for the upcoming season. A group of Liverpool fans took their acrimony to the other side of the world, where they flew an airplane over United’s training session at the WACA Cricket Ground in Perth.

The plane towed a banner reading “Liverpool FC- 6x European Champions.”

Okay, so subtlety is not the strong suit of the group who organized this.

You have to admire this supporter group zeal and dedication, although it’s unclear what this airplane stunt has really accomplished- other than of course, helping the media by giving them something to write in what is a very, very slow period for news.

Here’s another look at the banner:

United will kick off their preseason slate of fixtures against Perth Glory on Saturday. Liverpool gets things started later tonight with a friendly against Tranmere Rovers. The two sides will meet at Old Trafford on October 19, with the Anfield meeting on January 18 this upcoming season.
