After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Southampton in the first leg of the EFL Cup semifinal, Liverpool heads to Old Trafford to face their biggest rivals in a key PL match.
After back-to-back starts for Loris Karius in cup ties, Simon Mignolet makes his return to the net for the Reds. Mignolet has been sharp since reclaiming his No 1 spot and Liverpool will need another strong effort on Sunday.
OddsChecker has United at 6/5, Draw 12/5 and Liverpool 37/13.
538’s Soccer Power Index Projection has MUFC with a 44% of winning, Draw at 30%, Liverpool at 26%.
Joel Matip has returned to full training and should get the start alongside Dejan Lovren at centerback against United. That will be a big boost for Liverpool. Nathaniel Clyne and James Milner didn’t have great games midweek, and will need better performances on Sunday.
Like Matip, Jordan Henderson has been a full participant in practice this week and should be good to go at the weekend. Henderson’s leadership will be needed and was clearly missed while he was out. After starting higher up on Wednesday, Adam Lallana drops back to his normal spot on Sunday, with Georginio Wijnaldum getting the start over Emre Can.
Philippe Coutinho got 30 minutes midweek in his first match back from injury. He should start on Sunday. Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino should also start, with Daniel Sturridge coming off the bench.
