How much is Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling worth?
Depends on who you ask. According to all the transfer discussion, Manchester City believes he’s worth £40 million. (As there’s been multiple reports that City offered Liverpool that exact amount).
Liverpool rate him at £50 million (As there have been multiple reports claiming that this is the sum Anfield is holding out for). According to the Soccerex 20 Football Value Index, it’s £35 million.
“Combining all the factors, we came up with Sterling as the most valuable,” the study’s author Esteve Calzada said.
The study, featured in an article published by BBC Sport tonight, analyzes all players under the age of 21 currently with a professional club in Europe. According to the BBC:
“It determines their value based on their age, position, club, contract length, market value perception, international caps, minutes played, goals, injuries and technical quality.”
This is exactly why the Raheem Sterling transfer saga is the dominant narrative of the summer transfer window. Even though we still don’t have any resolution on it, and may not get closure for awhile yet.
While we’re on that specific topic, the Daily Star, for what it’s worth, claim City will close a deal before the end of the next week. DS says that Manuel Pellegrini is confident that they’ll have Sterling come aboard and join them in Australia for their preseason tour. Take from this what you will, certainly don’t regard it as anything more than speculation, but the publication also says that the two sides are willing to meet in the middle for £45 million.
We’ll see. We’ve heard this song before; a few times.
