Liverpool welcome Huddersfield Town to Anfield Friday night well aware that they need to take all three points from this clash, and most likely from every match that they have remaining. City won the Manchester derby at Old Trafford today, placing themselves back on top of the table.
The Reds need to win out, and hope City stumbles somewhere. In terms of this Friday night fixture against the league’s bottom side, both sides appear to be near fully fit.
Defender Dejan Lovren is available again after having overcome his recent bout with an undisclosed illness.
Midfielder Fabinho made a brief appearance in the win over Cardiff City, but it was cut short after just four minutes when he got caught up in butting of heads. However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the summer transfer window acquisition is in fact okay.
The Brazilian may be rested anyway as a precaution. We could see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain come back into the fold for this one. It’s been almost a year to the date since he tore his knee up in the UCL semifinals against AS Roma.
Meanwhile, with regards to Huddersfield, Jan Siewert essentially has the luxury of a fully fit squad to choose from, and with nothing left to play for, it will be interesting to see
1.) what his selection will be and
2.) how they come out for this one.
