If you want another summer of “David de Gea: will he or won’t he join Real Madrid?”protracted transfer gossip tedium, then sorry, we have some bad news for you. The Manchester United and Spain number one has reportedly agreed to a new contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford for five more years.

With Real Madrid transitioning to a new manager, Los Blancos are set to do some roster re-evaluation, and that would potentially mean a fresh pursuit and potentially bids for their hometown boy. However, it seems we will all be spared this painfully overly familiar narrative as De Gea is staying put for a long while.

Samuel Luckhurst from the Manchester Evening News claims that De Gea has signed a new contract extension that will ward off Real Madrid, as well as any other potential suitors.

De Gea has certainly transitioned from a boy to a man in the seven years since United acquired him from Atletico Madrid. Time and time again we’ve seen him save United literally and figuratively over the Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal eras, as the Madrid native has consistently racked up Man of the Match performances.

This past season was probably his finest form as he took home the United Player of the Year and his first ever Premier League Golden Glove award.

After keeping 18 clean sheets, he was also named the goalkeeper in the PFA Team of the Year.

De Gea and Spain begin their World Cup campaign with the Iberian peninsula derby against Portugal within the hour.
