According to numerous reports, including the Daily Telegraph, former Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink is set to return for a second spell at Stamford Bridge. The former Holland Manager’s people are working with the West London club to finalize a deal.
Hiddink is quoted in Fox Sports: “We are still talking, exchanging stuff… It is possible that we would still use this weekend to discuss.”
“It could take hours or days before I say yes or no. The news is fresh. I first want to take a good look.”
Ex Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins, who has worked with Hiddink, told Sky Sports News: “In the interim, the best guy for the job would be Guus Hiddink. I don’t see anyone else.”
Hiddink could be named Chelsea’s interim manager, for the remainder of the season, as early as tomorrow.
Wilkins added this on Hiddink:
“He was a success last time firstly because he didn’t have the language barrier, which Chelsea had with Felipe Scolari, who couldn’t quite get his message across. Guus came in to enjoy himself, and enjoy himself he did.”
“The pressure wasn’t really off him, because when you take over at Chelsea you’ve got to win. But he was extremely successful in that period because everyone worked his socks off for him.”
As for the newly jettisoned Jose Mourinho, it’s anybody’s guess where he’ll land, but we can certainly rule out a return to Real Madrid. Asked about Mourinho in an interview with Spanish radio program El Larger, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez said:
“Nobody can predict the future but right now he is not going to come to Madrid.”
