Chelsea beat Swansea City today 1-0 largely due to the efforts of Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas, both of whom were dynamic at the Liberty Stadium. Fabregas scored the match’s lone goal while Hazard was the Blues’ most threatening player on the pitch.
He’s also Chelsea’s leading scorer on the season, but with only 12 goals in Premier League play. Conte spotlighted this fact in his post match news conference, and with good reason, as the Blues failed to kill off a game they should have dominated against a team that is still in serious danger of being relegated.
“Our top scorer has scored only 12 goals. When your top scorer only gets 12 goals then it is hard to fight for something important, to fight for trophies,” said Conte.
The Blues are just sixth in the Premier League in goals scored (60), 38 behind behind league leaders Manchester City, who also dethroned them as champions. Scoring has been a big problem for Stamford Bridge this campaign, especially since the calendar flipped to 2018.
Today saw Chelsea having major issues making decisions in the final third, and against a stronger side, on another given day that would be their undoing.
However, there were some positives to be taken away from a fourth straight win, across all competitions; even if the opponent was quite weak.
In addition to Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas, very stellar outings were turned in by Cesar Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kante and Emerson Palmieri.
