Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, the team’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for 2016-17, is reportedly set for a three year contract extension. Multiple outlets, some of which cite The Sun, state that the Basque Country native who moved to the club in 2014 is set for a salary increase that will see his pay rise to £100,000 per week.

As it currently stands, Herrera will see his contract with the club expire this summer. The only individual not named David de Gea to win the club’s player of the year award these past four seasons is one of several players who have vastly improved under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. His form, under the tutelage of the Norwegian, has become so stellar that he’s essentially undroppable right now.

With news of Herrera’s contract extension seemingly imminent, many United fans are clamoring for the former Athletic Bilbao man to next be handed the captain’s arm band. The Daily Mirror has more on that over at this link.

It would indeed be the next logical step, as current captain, defender Antonio Valencia, is widely expected to move on this summer. and thus an opening is probably in the works. Additionally, it’s hard to argue that there’s a player who is more consistently and passionately rah-rah about MUFC than Ander Herrera.

Or at least, you’ll be hard pressed top find another individual who takes the Manchester City rivalry as serious as he does.
