There has been a lot of speculation about what kind of relationship Alexis Sanchez had with his Arsenal teammates, and Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, while he was with the club from 2014-17. Sanchez, who moved to Manchester United in January, said he’s been in contact with his former boss, whom he hailed as a “football master” and “historical football legend.”
Yesterday saw Wenger announce his resignation at the end of the season, and tributes came pouring in from all over the world. Sir Alex Ferguson in particular gave some especially outstanding remarks. Today, talking with reporters after United’s 2-1 FA Cup semifinal victory over Tottenham at Wembley Stadium, Sanchez said:
“I texted him yesterday to wish him the best. I could not say anything on social media but I texted him and he replied to me saying thank you to me.
“It’s sad because he is a historical football legend, I always said he is a gentleman and a football master, he taught me a lot about respect and to be professional. I’m just so thankful to him.”
Sanchez scored the first goal for United today, who will meet the winner of Sunday’s Chelsea-Tottenham Hotspur semifinal May 19.
