Diego Costa admits throwing bib at Mourinho was a mistake

Embattled Chelsea striker Diego Costa continues to get attention for doing something other than scoring. During the Blues’ dull, uninspiring 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur two weeks ago he threw his warm-up bib up in the air, in the general direction of Jose Mourinho. Costa was an unused sub that day, so clearly he was frustrated. There have been reports that Costa had a falling out with his manager.

Here’s the footage, take a look:

Twitter blew up over this, with both Costa and Mourinho top ten trending that day. Today, Diego Costa admitted that what he did was wrong.

“The bib [incident] is in the past,” Costa told Onda Cero.

“I made a mistake, but my relationship with Mourinho is amazing, we get on really well. There are things you need to control, but the bib thing was an impulse.”

“The truth is Chelsea haven’t been in a great moment, above all losing the other day at home [against Bournemouth]. Today it was important to win to make the fans happy and to recover our confidence.”

Mourinho said after the game that he has no problems with Costa, despite reports to the contrary. And in this interview, Costa said essentially the same thing.

“The start of the season has not been good for me — not in how I have played nor in goals,” Costa said when discussing his poor form this season.

“I know I have to be better to go to Euro 2016 with Spain. I have to work hard and fight, but I know I have time to improve and I hope I will.”

There are six teams that Chelsea could face when they receive their UEFA Champions League draw on Monday.

Mourinho believes that his side is the club that everyone wants to face right now.
