Indiana Hoosiers Lose Star Maurice Creek FOR SEASON

Maurice Creek

A crushing blow was suffered by the Indiana Hoosiers today as the University announced Maurice Creek had surgery on his Achilles. His return is unknown, but considering this is happening so close to the start of college basketball season. He’s probably done for the season.

This is the third serious injury suffered by Creek in the past 22 months.

Indiana was already looking like a lower division Big Ten team with depth issues. This only exacerbates their talent deficiencies.

“All of our energy is devoted to Maurice in helping him through this latest setback,” IU Head Coach Tom Crean said in a statement.

“I know he and his family have always appreciated the thoughts and prayers they receive from Hoosier Nation.”

Officially, Creek’s status for the upcoming season has not been determined, but it’s very unlikely he’ll suit up this season. Consider the achilles injury cases of Kalin Lucas from the MSU Spartans, or look at the gridiron with Dan Persa from the NU Wildcats. Both took forever to get back and neither was the same player they once were before the injury.

Creek also had surgery to repair a broken left patella in December of 2009. Last year, a stress fracture in his right patella ended his season in January. He, along with Christian Watford, were considered the major building blocks of Tom Crean’s regime in Bloomington. Crean’s seat is getting pretty hot right now.

This will not help.

Obviously.
