Chelsea Team News at Arsenal: Moises Caicedo, Marco Palestra, Jordan Henderson

Chelsea had a historical summer transfer window! We won’t be able to appreciate it fully until all the new arrivals have played, and that won’t come until after this weekend, given how both Marco Palestra (unspecified injury) and Jordan Henderson (recovery from a wrist injury) will miss out at Arsenal this weekend.

However, Chelsea did unofficially break the world record for the most money made during a single transfer window.

Chelsea spent around £328m this window as they looked for proven Premier League quality along with squad depth and balance.

They generated around £519m in player sales and loan fees, which is believed to be a record.

There are differing figures out there, but it is estimated that they made more than £500m in player sales and loan fees, which is believed to be the highest amount of all-time. One thing that we do know for sure is that in selling Enzo Fernandez for £125m to Manchester City, Chelsea became the first club to ever make a profit on a £100m player.

So kudos to them in that. In the past, we’ve seen Chelsea break world records for spending in both a summer transfer window and in a winter window. So the southwest London club is used to setting new benchmarks.

Blues Team News

With the transfer window just have closed, only two days ago, most of the focus is on that. There is, however, another injury concern for Chelsea, in addition to Henderson and Palestra (who officially ruled himself out for Sunday, by telling Sky Sports Italia:

“I’m fine, it’s still a few days away, but I feel much better.”)

caicedo

It’s a big one too- Moises Caicedo, who came off injured in the win over his former club, Brighton, last weekend.

Manager Xabi Alonso offered only this information, during his postmatch media session:

“Hopefully, it’s not new, and it wasn’t more than last time… He was cautious to stop, to say that his feeling was not the best. We need to assess during the week that it wasn’t something else.”

xabi alonso

Maybe Alonso will say something more, during his prematch press conference tomorrow.
