Arsenal Nearing Deal for Juventus Star Stephan Lichtsteiner Over Free Transfer

It may not be long until we see the first transfer addition of the Unai Emery era at Arsenal. The Spaniard was unveiled Wednesday as the newly minted Gunners boss, and now multiple reports indicate that he’s closing in on signing Juventus star Stephan Lichtsteiner. The best part is that it would be on a free transfer as the Switzerland international is out of contract.

“I’m playing in one of the biggest clubs in Europe and there’s always competition for places,” Lichtsteiner told Mediaset after making his 300th appearance against Bologna this month (h/t The Guardian).

“But my future is going to be away from Turin. At the end of the season I’m leaving. I’ll play abroad next year but I’ve not signed anything yet.”

The right back won the Serie A title in each of his seven seasons at the Italian superpower. Lichtsteiner scored 14 goals in 250 appearances for Juve since moving over from Lazio in the 2011 summer transfer window. He is expected to be handed the captain’s arm band for Switzerland next month at the World Cup in Russia.
