On Saturday, Chelsea lost more than just a huge game to Manchester City. They also lost their biggest weapon, striker Alvaro Morata, until November. Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte was very optimistic in his postgame news conference, this past weekend, saying the injury was not serious, and the he believed Morata stopped playing before he was put at risk for serious injury.

Today, we found that Conte was wrong.

On Monday, the Spanish Football Federation announced that it had dropped Morata from the roster the next two World Cup qualifiers due to his having suffered a grade two hamstring tear.

It’s been reported that the recovery timeline for an injury of this sort is about four to six weeks, and that means that the Spaniard could miss both of Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League matches against AS Roma and even the huge match against Manchester United on November 5.

Following that clash, there is yet another international break, and that will provide Alvaro Morata with more time for rest and convalescence.
