This offseason will be as eventful as possible for Chicago Bears Tight End Zach Miller. Organized Team Activities wrap up June 15th, with Camp Bourbonaiss opening up July 26th. In between, Zach Miller and his family will experience something that is much more meaningful than football.

We caught up to Miller at the fifth annual Charles Tillman Celebrity Pro BOWLer Tournament at Kings Bowl in Rosemont. During our exclusive interview we asked him about his off-season plans:

“I’ve got a very very big plan, and that is my third child is due to arrive in like two weeks,” Miller responded.

His wife is due June 20th. They do know that it’s going to be a baby boy, but no name has been chosen as of yet.

“It’s coming down to crunch time, and we’ve got stuff coming and we’re like ‘what are we going to name him? We might have to draw it out of a hat, I don’t know.”

“As soon as that little guy joins us I am imagine I’ll spend the majority of the time hanging out with family, continuing to rehab, continuing to get ready for training camp and get ready to roll.”

The timing of the birth works out perfectly as it comes after OTAs and before training camp. On the football side of things, the biggest issue for Zach Miller is recovering from a broken foot. Miller caught 47 balls for 486 yards and four touchdowns last season.

“I just got to get healthy, coming off a season-ending foot injury week 11, I’m close, getting there- and that’s my ultimate goal because once I’m healthy the rest kind of takes care of itself.”

It was an extremely eventful off-season for the Bears, who finally said goodbye to long time starting quarterback Jay Cutler, and brought in journeyman signal callers Mark Sanchez and Mike Glennon to try and replace him.

Additionally, Bears General Manager Ryan Pace gave up several draft picks in order to move up one slot in the draft and selected North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky to be the new franchise QB1. These moves have of course come under much scrutiny.

We asked Miller his thoughts about all the comings and goings this off-season.

“Typical offseason isn’t it?” the former Jacksonville Jaguar answered.

“I’ve been in the league nine years, and with the business side of things it’s always changing. I know people always question everything, but that’s why people get paid they way that they get paid to make those decisions and hopefully, everything will work out. We’re working hard.

The Chicago Bears fell to just 3-13 last season, so there is certainly room for improvement this fall.
