Jim Caldwell still very much on the hot seat in Detroit

Credit the Detroit Lions for playing with some pride (get it, “Lions,” “Pride” see what I did there?) as they may be trying to save the fate of Head Coach Jim Caldwell. Although they Lionsed away their last game against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, Detroit has definitely not been the LOLions lately.

A team that early on looked destined to be the club on the clock first for the NFL Draft, has now been playing very respectably.

Will it be enough to save Jim Caldwell?

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell’s future:

“That decision is going to be up to the new general manager of the Detroit Lions, the person whoever it is that they will hire when the season is over. When you talk to some of these potential candidates it gives you some insight into their thinking. Many of them are already thinking about the new head coach they are going to hire when they take over which certainly does not bode well for Jim Caldwell. Now, if the Lions do run the table, if they do continue to show the improvement that they made especially with Jim Bob Cooter the new offensive coordinator, maybe that can change things for Jim Caldwell. But so often when a new GM comes in, he wants to bring in his own guy.”

AFC Championship Football

Very true; the promotion of Jim Bob Cooter to OC has had a very positive effect on the team. It’s also very true that I’ll never actually accept that a real person is actually named that. Unless the Lions then promote Boss Hogg to Defensive Coordinator and Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane to Special Teams Coordinator.
