Manchester United have made a club record £40m bid for the Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata, says the Guardian. That would be a Football Club record. United have never spent that much money on a player before. Although the BBC is reporting that the Juan Mata bid is in the neighborhood in 35 million.

According to The Guardian, the offer is understood to have been made through a third party, allowing United to stick with their stance of no official bid being made, which remains the case. The paper also says that the Juan Mata deal will be completed over the next few days and that we could see Juan Mata switching from blue to red for next week.

He may be available for United when they host Cardiff on January 28th, or perhaps February 1st when they take on Stoke City at their place.  According to the Times, Juan Mata told Jose Mourinho this morning that he wanted to leave Chelsea and he was then excused from training at the London football club’s base in Cobham. Juan Mata has told friends and family he is joining Manchester United, according to the The Telegraph.

Completion of the Juan Mata transaction would finally signify a substantial January transfer window move for David Moyes. United supporters have been waiting s long time for him to do something that they can excited about, and a Juan Mata signing would be the biggest purchase he’s made since taking over for Sir Alex Ferguson.
