Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team unleashed their version of “Frank the Tank” at the Kohl Center on Tuesday Night.
Only this Frank the Tank doesn’t perform keg stands and go streaking through the Quad or at least we presume this to be the case.
The Badgers’ Frank the Tank, a.k.a. Frank Kaminsky, went off for a school-record 43 points on 16-of-19 shooting in a 103-85 win over North Dakota.
Kaminsky’s performance helped the Badgers eclipse the century mark for the first time since 1995.
The 7 foot junior’s previous career-high was 19 points, but now he has scored the most points in one game of any division one player so far this season.
After the game, he told reporters “As a basketball player, you want every shot to go in and when most of them are going in, it’s going to feel great. I can’t really describe it. It’s just an awesome feeling, looking back on the game now and being able to see the stats. It was just an awesome game.”
According to ESPN Stats and Info., Kaminsky and Chris Kaman are the only 7-foot Division I players to score 40-plus points in a game over the last 15 seasons. Kaman had 43 points for Central Michigan in a win over Ball State on Feb. 19, 2003.
The Badgers that Frank passed in the record books were Ken Barnes (vs. Indiana, 3/8/1965) and Michael Finley (at Eastern Michigan, 12/10/1994) who each had 42 points in a game.
“That’s an awesome thing to be up there. Michael Finley is an Illinois guy. I heard a lot about him when I was growing up. To beat his record is kind of a surreal thing and it’s a great feeling. I still have a lot of games left, too, so maybe it can happen again. I hope it can,” responded Kaminsky asked about what the record means to him.
Frank the Tank and the new style Badgers (undefeated at 5-0) will get another shot at the record books when the Badgers take on Bowling Green on Thursday Night.
