Reader mail: Lizzy Seeberg and Notre Dame Football

lizzy-seeberg

With Notre Dame playing in the BCS Championship game, the  spotlight is brighter than ever on ND football. And with that limelight brings more scrutiny, especially on the Federal case of Lizzy Seeberg, a young woman who killed herself after allegedly being sexually assaulted by an Irish football player, and allegedly threatened by another.

This email was in response to this article

Sir:

I just wanted to thank you for reporting on the deplorable situation at Notre Dame regarding the Seeburg case. As we all know they close ranks to protect one of their own. Notre Dame, like so many other schools, espouse their great religious teachings and atmosphere but we all know they would sweep anything under the rug to protect their brand.

I had heard a little about this earlier but as you say it has been under reported. Whether people believe it or not  there is a great media bias for ND. The reporters will aid the cover up as much as they can. It is my hope that you will continue to report on this and I hope the family sues the crap out of the school and the player involved.

You know the local police will do their part in keeping it covered up. Maybe they should be sued for not doing their job and also have criminal charges brought against them for malfeasance in office.

Sorry for the length of this but I needed to get some of this off my chest. It just rankles me at how far people will go to protect some damn athlete.

Thanks for your time and the story.

  1. You slobs never give up do you? You could give a crap about Lizzy Seeberg. If you think It has something to do with Notre Dame you have to bitch about It. I could give a crap about what you think.

  2. I take issue with the above email from Mark. If he really knew anything about the Lizzy Seeberg case, he would know that it was very much reported at the time in many, many papers. It was investigated by the South Bend police and because of the fact that this young woman took her life and because of the testimony that she gave the police, there was nothing to prosecute! Please keep your biased opinions to yourself.

  3. Total drivel…there was no sexual assault. The poor young woman had serious mental issues that her family ignored. A tragedy indeed, but this article and ..most likely…a doctored email…is mostly an anti ND and anti Catholic rant….get a life.

  4. the email is completely legit, and I’m surprised here by 1. the lack of compassion and respect for the dead and 2. the mindless Notre Dame jingoism. It’s a school, not an infallible institution

  5. I believe that the email is legit. No one is discounting the tradegy of the death of this young girl. It is quite sad and I said so back in 2010 when this first appeared in many papers. What many are objecting to is the distortion of the facts.
