A new Public Service Announcements stars many NFL Hall-Of-Famers including Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, Marshall Faulk and Michael Irvin coming out against illegal guns. It also stars future Hall of Famer LaDanian Tomlinson
It’s part of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns movement started by New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston mayor Thomas Menino. My hometown of Chicago may be the city hit worst by illegal gun violence. There are no gun shops/ranges in the city and the state of Illinois is the only state left that criminalizes carrying a concealed weapon. Yet here we are, with the media covering shootings in Chicago like it’s the Al Capone days. The flood of illegal guns from other states filters in and 2013 is on pace to be a much worse year than 2012 when in comes to firearm homicides.
Damn right gun control is a serious subject. As it should be; good to see some NFL players speaking up for it.
After Newtown, Aurora, Virginia Tech, Tucson, Philadelphia, the list goes on and on and on, Demand a plan is right. Mia Farrow said it best. “Gun control is no longer debatable, it’s not a conversation, it’s a moral mandate.”
