Michigan’s Tim Hardaway Jr. will continue NBA legacy

tim-hardaway-jr-michigan

As the Orange Krush Illinois student section at Assembly Hall harassed Tim Hardaway Jr. of the Michigan Wolverines, they chanted “daddy’s boy, daddy’s boy.” Rather unimaginative and not at all damaging, don’t you think?

I mean you’re saying “you came from a rich, famous household!! take that!!” “You had privileges growing up and will never incur crippling student loan debt, we deride for this!”

And he’s likely headed towards more dollars and sense, as he’ll probably follow in his father’s footsteps to the NBA. Currently, we have Hardaway as the 21st overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. Yes, we know the 2012 draft hasn’t even happened yet, and we have a 2013, that’s how we roll. We believe he’ll stay one more season, than bolt for the league.

Trey Burke Considering NBA

When Michigan fell to 13-seeded Ohio in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, its quest for its first Sweet 16 appearance since 1994 was definitively lost, but the Wolverines may be on the verge of suffering an even bigger loss in the near future.

Freshman point guard Trey Burke, who led the Wolverines in scoring (14.8 ppg) and assists (4.6 apg), is considering entering the NBA draft, according to TheWolverine.com. According to his father, Benji Burke, two of the major factors weighing heavily in his decision are the way elevated his play at the end of the season as well as the relatively weak pool of point guards in this year’s draft class.

13-Seed Ohio Upsets Michigan: Rapid Reaction

Two years ago, the 14-seed Ohio Bobcats pulled off an impressive upset over 3-seed Georgetown. So when the Bobcats knocked off 4-seed Michigan in this year’s tournament, it wasn’t as much of a surprise.

The Bobcats shot 51.2 percent from the field, and didn’t allow Michigan to get into a rhythm on offense for most of the night. The Wolverines were held scoreless in the game’s final four minutes.

Michigan on Upset Alert Against 13-Seed Ohio

The Wolverines just completed their most impressive regular season since coach John Beilein arrived in Ann Arbor in 2007, a campaign that included 24 wins, 13 of those in conference, and their first Big Ten Championship since the 1985-1896 season–even if they only technically own 1/3 of that crown.

Those impressive numbers awarded the Wolverines a four-seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament, which sets up a showdown with 13-seed Ohio. But let me clarify something, these are not the “Ohio” Buckeyes that Brady Hoke and Beilein are constantly referring to, the team that beat the Wolverines by 22 points in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal. No, this is Ohio University, a well-coached, athletic group that will give Michigan all it can handle.

The Maize and Blue haven’t been playing their best basketball of late, most recently falling, 77-55, in the semifinals of the conference tournament to the other “Ohio”, a game in which freshman point guard Trey Burke shot just 1-11 from the field.

Warning: I will not be responsible if you copy these brackets and are out of your NCAA Tournament pool by Sunday.  However, if you do listen to my college basketball wisdom and win some money, I want 20% of the pot or at least a shout-out on your twitter or facebook page.  North Carolina is the top seed in the Midwest Regional but Kansas figures to have a huge home crowd advantage in St. Louis that could propel them to the Final Four.

Michigan’s Trey Burke making a case as Big Ten’s best player

Just four days ago, the Big Ten announced that its freshman of the year award was being given to two separate players—Indiana’s Cody Zeller took home the coaches award and Michigan’s Trey Burke got the media vote.

But after another eye-popping performance in Michigan’s win over Minnesota in the second-round of the Big Ten tournament, those coaches may want to re-think their decision.

Michigan Wolverines’ Trey Burke: NBA Ready?

trey-burke

When Michigan lost star guard Darius Morris to the NBA after the 2010-2011 season, the Wolverines appeared to have a major void in their backcourt. Tim Hardaway Jr. was back, yes. But there was no true point guard to run John Beilein’s complex offense.

Enter Trey Burke, the freshman point guard who has far exceeded expectations in his first season in Ann Arbor. Through 24 games this season, the Columbus native is averaging 14 points and five assists.

2012 Big Ten Tournament Preview & Predictions

michigan-state-girl

The Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament tips off Thursday, March 8, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Heading into the tournament, the Big Ten continues to lead all conferences in the RPI and Sagarin ratings and is the only conference in the country with five top-15 teams.

So you could easily say it’s the toughest conference in college basketball. But it doesn’t mean the games will be the prettiest; in fact you might see a couple ugly ones.

Chris Webber (Five-time NBA All-Star) and leader of the Fab 5 Michigan Wolverines, will appear prominently in Cartoon Network’s first original documentary, Speak Up, from it’s pro-social initiative “Stop Bullying: Speak Up.”
