Alleged Child Molestor Jerry Sandusky Actually Has Supporters

jerry_sandusky

A few years ago I attended a play about Benedict Arnold. Being a Revolutionary War buff, I enjoy these kinds of things, but I had no idea the theme and moral of the stage show would influence my future writing as much as it does. The play went through the story of how Arnold stabbed the American colonists in the back by giving up Fort Ticonderoga to the British.

Specifically, the play focused on why he did it: Arnold felt he was repeatedly passed over for promotions that he believed he deserved, he kept putting up his own front money for his army and going broke, the Colonial regulars didn’t reimburse him, he had a young mercenary trophy wife who was demanding, you get the idea.

The point is the man is deservedly synonymous with the concept of “TRAITOR!” for the length of American history. So we only know him as pure evil, but there’s always another side to the story.

Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, the right hand man to Joe Paterno is an alleged child rapist. If guilty of what he’s accused (and I believe he’s guilty as sin, I’ll be extremely outraged if the Pennsylvania courts let him walk) then he really is the lowest form of human life; a disgusting vile subcreature.

Jerry Sandusky Denied Coaching Job Last Year; Harassed College

jerry_sandusky

The big news today concerning Former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was how he stunned a packed courtroom by backing out of a preliminary hearing at the last minute, avoiding a face-to-face confrontation with accusers.

Sandusky pleaded not guilty and vowed afterward to “stay the course, to fight for four quarters.”

He waived his right to a preliminary trial, and decided to let the case go straight to trial.

But more overlooked, and very important is the fact that Sandusky applied to be a college football coach, on a volunteer level, just last year. And he was denied because he left out the fact that he was being investigated on the application forms.

And then when he was denied he couldn’t just leave the college alone.

Penn State Beats Ohio State in “Scandal Bowl;” Tom Bradley’s 1st W

tom bradley

Interim Penn State Head Coach Tom Bradley told the media at his postgame press conference:

“This win isn’t about me; it’s about the players and this team. I don’t think any team in the history of college football has been through so much in such a time period and to hang in there and fight their way through it is great.”

And to some extent he has a point, the players are pretty much collateral damage in the Penn State scandal; they are made to suffer somewhat though they have done no wrong on their own. However, to a larger, more relevant extent: Mr. Bradley, would you like some cheese with that whine? Boo Effing Hoo, now is not the time to try and elicit sympathy for you and your bunch.

There are bigger issues and vastly more victimized people to think about right now.

Bradley has not come off very well in most of his media appearances since the scandal broke. If anything, he comes off almost as delusional and stuck in the insulated, egocentric PSU bubble as Paterno, Schultz, Curley et al.

But he did get his first win as Penn State Head Coach today.

#21 Penn State vs. Ohio State: Brutally Honest Game Preview

penn state rioting

Last week, the Penn State Nittany Lions played their first game after the biggest story is sports history unfolded on their campus. It led to their first Big Ten loss of the season. This week they’ll take to the road for the first time in the wake of the PSU pedophilia scandal, and face the team they knocked off the front page of the college football scandal sheet- the Ohio State Buckeyes.

There are four big traditional powers in the Big Ten, two of which (these two right here) are going to be down for awhile as they are programs in disarray. Of course, the level of disarray and the fallout yet to come is a million times worse at PSU.

Penn St. Scandal Likely to Prompt Civil Suits, Sandusky’s 4th Victim Speaks Out

jerry sandusky

As more and more victims come forward in the Penn State sexual abuse scandal, it’s becoming increasingly clear that there will be at least a few civil lawsuits against Sandusky, and possibly Penn State University following the criminal case.

Penn State is a very large institution with a lot of money to hire the best legal talent. However, their lawyers will face a monumental task given 1.) all the evidence in the grand jury report 2.) all the corroborating evidence from the numerous witnesses coming forward.

I’m not Johnnie Cochran or anything, but it appears they’ll be better off not trying to fight this, and instead settle out of court. And of course that will cost money. It could bleed the university, and severely hurt the Nittany Lions program. It costs a lot of money to upkeep a college football program.

Joe Paterno Visits Hospital for Unknown Ailment; Media Ignore It

joe paterno

Hard to believe a story like this slipped through the cracks.

Joe Paterno, the recently fired Penn State head football coach and all-time leader in college football wins visited a campus infirmary and a local hospital Wednesday night for treatment of an undisclosed issue. And no one noticed.

Questions abound about the 84-year-old coach’s health in the wake of the scandal and his dismissal.

Penn State Loses First Game of Post-Paterno Era 17-14

Given what went on this past week in State College, many people worried about what might happen today in Penn State versus Nebraska. Some thought the game shouldn’t even be played; out of both respect to Jerry Sandusky’s victims and fear of public safety.

There was a bomb threat; but luckily nothing was found and there have been no major injuries reported. Thus far, no other serious incidents have made public knowledge, so it’s safe to say the game went off much better than expected.

On to actual college football. The game began with both teams joining at midfield for a pre-game prayer.

#12 Penn State Nittany Lions #19 Nebraska Cornhuskers: Brutally Honest Game Preview

Penn State news that actually focuses on college football? Hhmm, yeah, we’ll try.

It’s hard to think about football when you have a campus in mutiny due to the firing of one of the game’s biggest icons. And that firing was justified because of the university’s looking the other way while a defensive coordinator raped children.

It’s also harder to preview this game when Penn State cancelled their weekly press conference. But alas, we will talk about football. It’s SAD and PATHETIC that PSU is “carrying the flag” for the Big Ten conference. They’re the highest ranked team, the only team with just one-loss and the only squad undefeated in conference play.

So, until further notice they are the Big Ten’s (sigh) “best team.”

Penn State Campus Now Rioting, Demonstrating (Photos)

In a span of five days, we’ve seen the Penn State Nittany Lions sex scandal go from breaking news story, to earth-shattering scandal to surreal,”take a moment to remember where you are” type of media circus.

And it’s perfectly understandable, since new information breaks every hour, and the situation gets darker, weirder, sadder and indicative of the worst elements in human nature every time news breaks.

Now the students in University Park have taken to the streets, yes they are demonstrating, rioting. Yes rallying and taking grassroots political action supporting Joe Paterno. Now that JoePa has been fired, that town is going to burn.

Here are some photos:

JOE PATERNO FIRED! Tom Bradley Named Penn St Interim Coach

The Penn State University board of trustees had an emergency meeting tonight and decided to dismiss Joe Paterno as head college football coach at Penn State University. I’m sure you know why.

So it appears he will not go out at the end of the season, as he preferred to do. Defensive Coordinator Tom Bradley has been promoted to interim head coach; and he will lead the team Saturday versus the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Jaguars, Penn St LB Paul Posluszny: Sandusky’s Revered at PSU

As you know, Penn State is known as “Linebacker U.” At least it was prior to the child rape scandal which has engulfed the media world the past five days. Now Happy Valley is more known as “Creepy Valley.”

And when you read the quote below, it’ll get even creepier. Paul Posluszny of the Jacksonville Jaguars shared his thoughts with Jacksonville.com. According to another former Penn State linebacker, Dan Connor, Posluszny and Sandusky were pretty close.

All college football players walk around on campus as if they own the entire planet. Double that at Penn State; double it again if you’re a linebacker at Linebacker U. So you know Posluszny was BMOC in University Park, yet during his time there he saw Jerry Sandusky as someone who walks on water at PSU.- someone much higher above them. [Read more…]

Breaking: Penn State President Graham Spanier Gone By Day’s End

Darren Rovell's photo Penn State's logo today (via @Quickish, @n2st)

Multiple outlets, including ESPN, are reporting that Penn State president Graham Spanier will be gone by the end of the day- either he’ll resign, or he’ll be forced out. The man now nicknamed “Cocker Spanier” has gone unseen and unheard during all this.

The on-campus rioting/demonstration last night conveyed that this has really gone on long enough.

Obviously Spanier has to go, there is a groundswell of grassroots support for his ouster.

More than 1,600 people in nearly every state created a popular campaign on Change.org calling on Penn St. University’s Board of Trustees to fire President Graham Spanier after he failed to notify the police about a 2002 incident of suspected child sexual abuse in the locker room of the university’s football team by retired defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.
