Packers Nip the Colts 24-21; Preseason Notes and Links

The Green Bay Packers played their starters for an entire half en route to a 24-21 win over the Indianapolis Colts to improve to 2-1 in the preseason. Even though Aaron Rodgers and company had a crisp half, it was third-stringer Graham Harrell who led the Pack to a last minute victory on Friday.

Follow the jump to see what’s being said about the Super Bowl Champions in various realms of the web.

– In case you missed the game, the Associated Press does a great of explaining how the “Packers score 11 in final 35 seconds.” To make a long-story short, it involved Head Coach Mike McCarthy going for a two-point conversion followed by a successful onside kick and 50-yard game-winner off the boot of Mason Crosby.

– Building on the last link, Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette discusses “Why McCarthy played to win.”

– Despite the win, the Packers night consisted of a lot of hiccups from the starting offense. The Colts Dwight Freeney made the Packers Chad Clifton look silly while Aaron Rodgers was hurried a little much for one’s liking. Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel discusses the matter more including quotes from the offensive lineman.

“There’s no excuse for it,” Clifton said. “I need to play better. Our job is to perform and perform at a high level. I didn’t do that tonight. I know it wasn’t one of my finest performances. I’ll just have to learn from it.”

– On a positive note, QB Aaron Rodgers was almost perfect (19/23 for 204 yards and 1 TD) with the touchdown being a 18-yard toss to TE Jermichael Finley. Rodgers talks about his chemistry with Finley via Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com.

– Next up for the Packers is a final preseason bout with the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, September 1st at 7:oo PM CT in Green Bay. In a odd coincidence, the Wisconsin Badgers football team will be making their season debut versus UNLV at Camp Randall Stadium at the same time.
