Former Chicago Bears head coach Dave Wannstedt is a football pundit these days, and his gig requires that he must opine on every team out there. That includes teams with which he has direct first hand, negative experience. Wannstedt replaced Mike Ditka, another Pittsburgh alum, when he took over the Bears job.
The Bears of Dave Wannstedt made only one postseason appearance in 6 years and compiled a 41–57 record. After Wannstedt posted back-to-back 4–12 seasons and a 1–11 overall record against long-time rival, the Green Bay Packers, he was let go.
The Bears of today though aren’t any better. In fact, they might actually be worse. Chicago is rebuilding at the quarterback position, having finally initiated their long overdue divorce from Jay Cutler, and revamped the back-ups on the depth chart as well. Now it’s up to journeyman Mike Glennon, and Mitchell Trubisky, the very high draft pick that Bears GM Ryan Pace gave up a boatload in order to acquire.
“I hope they give Mike Glennon a fair chance,” Dave Wannstedt said during our exclusive conversation with him.
“I’m a Mike Glennon fan, I’m a John Fox fan. I hope the first interception he throws the fans, the media don’t turn on him and say put the young kid in there, because I think he’s a good player.”
Wannstedt of giving Glennon a realistic opportunity to be the guy- “If they do I think they’ll be happy.”
Dave Wannstedt also said of Trubisky: “I’m sure he has some talent.”
