When you’re going with Blaine Gabbert, I think that tells you everything you need to know about your quarterback situation. However, the San Francisco 49ers haven’t completely conceded defeat in the battle further develop Colin Kaepernick.
Given how much they’ve invested in him over time, they’re not ready to totally throw in the towel just yet.
Taking a look at this year’s NFL Draft class at the quarterback position, it’s easy to understand why Frisco still wants to explore what they already have in house. Other than Michigan Stare’s Connor Cook and maybe the kid from Memphis, it’s really difficult to fathom a true, legitimate first round quarterback prospect.
Why not give Kaepernick one last chance? Remember #Kaepernicking? That was a thing once. Perhaps he still has something left to offer the Niners.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on the San Francisco 49ers:
“Paraag Marathe is now no longer involved in the day-to-day running of the franchise and that may have signaled a little bit of a change at the quarterback position for the future. My understanding is Colin Kaepernick sat down with general manager Trent Baalke and discussed among other things potential free agent targets for next year and the plan for 2016. A sign that maybe, just maybe, the 49ers are not done with Kaepernick yet. I am told he is in their plans for 2016.”
Perhaps Kaepernick isn’t the solution, but who else is out there on the open market for San Francisco? We already covered how there are no especially exciting or legitimate answers in this year’s draft.
