Here’s just a little reminder of where we are today regarding sports media, through the lens of a M.C. Hammer appearance on an unwatchable FOX Sports program.
This appearance coming the day after ESPN laid off John Clayton, their premier reporter for the nation’s most valuable sports brand. The best possible analysis of this development, and what it says about the world of sports media today:
ESPN firing John Clayton a reminder of where media is today. No time for info and cogent analysis, all the time in the world for hot takes.

From there we take you to Hammer, going way out on a limb here, making a bold prediction in his guest punditry stint on that awful Shannon Sharpe/Skip Bayless show-
M.C. Hammer reaffirms that his Golden State Warriors will be victorious:
“I was very impressed, but it was up to expectation. The Warriors are a team to be reckoned with. No matter which way you twist it, when you’ve got to get out there and play the Warriors, it gets real – real quick. You start saying things like you heard LeBron say, ‘What’s the problem?’ [It’s] KD. It’s not going to be a long narrative.
“You’re going to try and figure out this man running up and down the court, not just on offense, but playing defense with tenacity.”
Wow dude! Mind blown there by such brilliant and cogent analysis.
It’s well known that M.C. Hammer is an Oakland native and former Oakland Athletics batboy, so this isn’t just homerism here. With what the Warriors did to the Cavaliers last night in Game one of the NBA Finals, Mr. “U Can’t Touch This” is pretty much M.C. Captain Obvious. He didn’t say anything that couldn’t be learned from watching a random five minute sample of the Warriors’ game one blowout of the Cavaliers.
“get you back and i’ll
Hit with a dose of Oaktown power
And charge you by the hour”
Indeed.
I would say he’s plenty legit enough to quit the NBA punditry game.
