Joakim Noah to Make $18m per Season, Reunite with Derrick Rose

It’s no mystery why the New York Knicks have just one playoff series win this century. If there’s one thing the Knicks do well, and do very consistently, it’s OVERPAY for big name players who are way past their prime. It’s like Owner James Dolan bases his entire roster on just one trait- individual brand name awareness.

Enter Chicago Bulls Center Joakim Noah, who is joining the Knicks for $18 million per season, according to multiple sources.

Noah at $18m per year is basically the $4.19 bottled water at the airport coffee shop. It’s the $3.25 granola bar in the hotel gift shop. That’s what a “thrifty, smart buy” this is for the Knicks…even by their lowly standards.

It’s too bad the Knicks aren’t buying 2013-2014 Joakim Noah, who was both the NBA Defensive Player of the Year and All-NBA that season. Due to the salary cap rising from $70 million in 2015-16 to $94 million in 2016-17, the contract numbers players will receive this silly season will be the silliest of all time, and this is a perfect example. Get ready to say to yourself “Wow! That’s a ridiculous price for that guy” over and over again, as every free agent is going to get way overpaid.

It’s like very team gets to be as Knicks-y as possible because no one does absurd overspending quite like the Knicks.

So now Noah gets reunited with Derrick Rose, the 2010-11 NBA MVP. Too bad the Knicks didn’t pull off a trade for 2011 D. Rose somehow.

Get ready Dwight Howard, you’re moving to Madison Square Garden next; at $22 million per season.
