The preseason for the Oklahoma City Thunder went well as usual, which is not surprising in the least for anyone from Seattle. There was not a doubt in my mind that once they left the Washington area this team would suddenly become good, no, great, because this place is cursed. It is an insidious, wet, hell for any sports team and great player to come to. Even if Kevin Durant blossomed into a majestic superstar as he has, he would have left the city of Seattle because he probably hated it here.

The Seattle Supersonics used to have a good vibe. Gary Payton was here and Shawn Kemp made it rain in ways that were not gloomy or liable to start a riot from greedy strippers. Preseason basketball in Seattle used to be a time of hope and love, love for the game of basketball that was pure and would never spurn us for some backwater sludge town that cared more about football and hunting and NASCAR and steers than it would ever give a damn about the majestic game of hoops.
However, reality is weird in that way, and now when I watch preseason NBA basketball on my direct tv, I am disheartened that none of it involves a team in yellow and green, a team that would ultimately flounder and fail but would still be fun to watch.
