If transfer windows were an automobile, then the summer period would be the engine, chassis, body, interior, dashboard, trunk….well you get the idea. The January transfer window would be a hood ornament.
As a reporter pointed out to Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho today, none of the “big six” or “top six” teams added a single player this January transfer window, in order to strengthen their run at the league title or top four.
Yes, news wise, it was like tumbleweeds passing through a deserted town.
When this fact was pointed out to Mourinho today at his weekly press briefing ahead of tonight’s match against Hull City, Mourinho said he could only speak for his club, not the others and had this to say:
“In our case, we are more focused on the summer period. I like my players, so nothing for me.
I know what I want I always think every week the more I know my players, the more I know my team, the more I know the competition, because it’s a competition I know really well, but it’s a competition in permanent evolution.”

Mourinho then reiterated what he’s said earlier this month, that he’s focused on the summer transfer period. Naturally the journalist followed up with a summer transfer window question
“I know what I want, the market closes today, so there is no point in me speaking about the next transfer window when we have so many matches to play, so much to fight for, so many good players to work with,” Mourinho responded.
“If you ask me ‘do I know what I want for the next transfer window?’ yes I know. Is it possible to get? I’ll try, always, to be realistic.”
