The University of Illinois I Fund hosts its annual Illini Day at Wrigley Field on Saturday, May 14, when the Chicago Cubs take on the defending World Series Champion San Francisco Giants at 6:10 p.m.
Illinois college football coach Ron Zook will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, and Illini college basketball coach Bruce Weber will sing the 7th-Inning stretch.
The I Fund is also hosting a two hour pre-game celebration at Cubby Bear; guests will include Zook, Weber, and members of their respective staffs. Package includes unlimited draft drink package and dinner buffet.
Tickets will go on sale to fund and Varsity ‘I’ members on-line on Thursday, April 28 at 10 AM. Tickets are $75 each and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of 8 tickets per order. General public sale is Friday morning.
The Fighting Illini basketball team will participate in a foreign tour to Italy in August. The trip runs from Aug. 10-20 and includes stops in Rome, Florence, Venice and Como.
NCAA regulations allow teams to make foreign trips once every four years. The Illini anticipate playing four or five games against Italian professional club teams, although game details are yet to be worked out. In addition to the travel and competition, the Illini will hold 10 on-campus practice sessions prior to the trip.
