In adding Virgil van Dijk, a defender they have openly and aggressively coveted for a long time, Liverpool Football Club have shattered their club transfer fee record again.

This is the second time that Liverpool FC have broken their own transfer fee record in 2017, and what feels like the millionth time they have brought up a player from Southampton FC. The Telegraph reports that the VVD deal is for £75 million, a world record transfer fee for a defender.

naby keita

This surpasses the £67.5 million Anfield paid in the summer for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, who joins the club next summer.

The fourth all-time highest signing, AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, was also this summer, and some initial reports claimed that he also was a club record signing, surpassing the third place player, Christian Benteke at £41.85 million. However, Salah came in at £37.8m, which is a ridiculous bargain so far when you consider the torrid pace with which he is scoring goals.

The entire top six have been signed since 2015, and you can look at the entire top 25 over at transfermarkt.co.uk.

It’s expected that the top slots are all dominated by recent transfer window signees, and we’re only going to see it continue trending that way moving forward.

euros

Big clubs will continue splashing the cash, as player prices will just keep going up and up and in the future.
