United Assessing Rashford, Herrera Fitness Ahead of Spurs Clash

MARCUS RASHFORD

Already an injury plagued side, it’s possible that Manchester United will be without additional key players in for the Premier League’s headliner fixture of the weekend. United host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in a battle of the two second place teams, five points behind table toppers Manchester City.

According to ESPN, United: “will assess Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera ahead of Tottenham’s visit to Old Trafford this weekend after both picked up knocks against Swansea.”

Both the English forward and the Spanish midfielder were taken off in the 67th minute as a precaution last night in the Red Devils 2-0 win over Swansea City in the League Cup fourth round.

Herrera suffered a knock on his ankle after a tackle from the opposing Kyle Naughton. Meanwhile Rashford was complaining of a tight hamstring during half-time.

Hinging on their recovery, both players would be in line to start against Spurs. While United have at least some depth at the forward spot to handle Rashford’s absence, their midfield is in nothing short of an injury crisis with Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini out long term, and not showing any signs of returning soon. Thus, if Herrera can’t go it would be a tremendous setback to the position group.
