Mauricio Pochettino Promises Summer Transfer Window Activity

The idea that “less is more,” a phrase made famous by the Bauhaus school of architecture, has often been applied to the 2017 Tottenham Hotspur summer transfer window. It’s preseason, and there’s only so much you can really say about exhibition friendlies. It’s also the summer silly season, and that means over-analysis of transfer moves and even the rumors and gossip.

With Tottenham being so completely inactive this summer window, pundits have had to find something to talk about, and the idea that White Hart Lane is winning by doing nothing has often been expressed.

It’s obviously a misnomer at best or “hot take” at worst, given that Spurs finished behind Chelsea last season for the league title, and the Blues have strengthened themselves considerably with three major additions. Tottenham have bought zero players, and they have only done one deal overall- the sale of defender Kyle Walker to Manchester City, the same exact team they will face tonight. Tottenham Hotspur Manager Mauricio Pochettino answered supporters concerns about the lack of business this summer.

“I understand completely — all the people expect that Tottenham will be again fighting for the Premier League,” Pochettino said in  Nashville.

“It’s true that the most important thing for us is the opinion of the fans.”

“Be sure we will move in the market to try to improve the squad. We will arrive in our moment to move, sure. We have a plan. It’s true that it’s so early and we’re calm because our squad is competitive.”

“After the last two seasons, we were the best, if we compare the last two seasons with other teams we were the best. That is why we are calm. We have a very clear idea of what we want and what we need to do to try to achieve our target. Be sure we will move.”

There’s still plenty of time between now and August 31st, so we will see if the promises of Pochettino are fulfilled or not. You have to credit the Argentine and his side for this- they certainly only sell the players they wish to part ways with. They hold on to the players that they want to keep.
