On Tuesday, Manchester United announced their first arrival of the summer transfer window in Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred. Reports indicate that United have made a £50 million+ investment in the Brazilian, so today’s news from his country’s international training session is extremely alarming to United and their fan base.
Fred suffered an ankle injury today at Tottenham Hotspur’s Enfield training ground. The severity and extent of the injury will not be known until after a scan is performed tomorrow.
Rodrigo Lasmar, Brazils’ team doctor said: “Today Fred had trauma in his ankle but it is too early to say anything about it. Tomorrow we watch to see what happens and then decide if we need to do any exams or not but at the moment it is too early to say anything about him.”
The whole Manchester United community will be on pins and needles awaiting the results of that scan tomorrow, but in the meantime, the midfielder’s World Cup prospects have now been dealt a severe blow. Brazil will begin their World Cup campaign in in just 10 days with Group E action against Switzerland in Rostov, Russia.
After that clash, they will take on Costa Rica in St Petersburg and then Serbia in Moscow.
