Reports earlier this week indicated that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is seeking an expensive and aggressive January transfer window. If true, this must be an indicator Mourinho’s confidence in his job status. One of the leading potential targets, for that hypothetical shopping spree, is Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Serbian international was happy that Mourinho was in the house to see him and his country beat Montenegro last night 2-0.
Possibly (some would even say presumably), Mourinho was there to scout Milinkovic-Savic, who was widely reported to be a summer transfer target of the club.
“I am a Lazio player but it is obvious that I was pleased that a coach of his stature came to watch the match,” said Milinkovic-Savic, who came on for the last 10 minutes and helped set up his side’s second goal.
“I read a little bit everywhere he was here at the stadium to see me play, but that does not mean anything. Maybe he was not here for me, but for someone else.”
According to the Daily Mail, there may have indeed been a somebody else and that somebody else was Milinkovic-Savic’s Serbia teammate, “20-year-old centre back Nikola Milenkovic, who is in excellent form for Fiorentina after enjoying a good World Cup.”
