As a manager, Ryan Giggs has yet to accomplish much. He still needs to cut his teeth somewhere and work his way up the ladder, but it appears he just not getting the opportunities. Premier League jobs open up, and Giggs just doesn’t get a shout out. He was linked to the Southampton job, but that was yet another example of a transfer rumor with no real credibility behind it.

The Saints were not at all interested in Ryan Giggs despite all that he accomplished as a player at Manchester United.

It’s hard to find a Premier League player who has accomplished more than Giggs at any club, anywhere. However, that just doesn’t seem to mean a whole lot when it comes to what clubs seek in a manager.

Ryan Giggs said that since he took the assistant manager job at United under Louis van Gaal in 2014, only one club- Swansea City, even bothered to interview him about a managerial opening.

He told the Manchester Evening News:

“I spoke to Swansea. It didn’t work out.”

“Because I have said I want to go into coaching and management every job that comes up I am linked with..and then I miss out on the job without having spoken to anyone! That’s frustrating, but that’s football. …“I have done the apprenticeship I have just not done the real thing yet.”

Giggs filled in for four games as caretaker manager in 2014 after David Moyes was sacked. Ryan Giggs won two and drew one of the four matches that he was in charge. Maybe some club, someday soon, will remember that and see potential in it.
