Manchester United are looking to continue their Premier League hot streak as they head across town for the Manchester Derby on Thursday. Jose Mourinho’s side is undefeated in their last 23, thrashing Burnley 2-0 today. Afterward, Mourinho addressed the media and it appears this victory came with a hefty price.
Paul Pogba limped off the pitch on Sunday and he’s now a doubt for the epic clash against Manchester City Thursday night.
It could just be extreme fatigue, or it could be a substantial injury. Mourinho says he is unsure whether his £89.3 million midfielder is injured or just very overworked.
“I don’t know,” Mourinho responded to a query on this topic.
“Dead he is for sure, if he’s injured or if it’s just the super accumulation of fatigue in the muscles, I don’t know. But as I was saying, if he cannot play Thursday he cannot play Thursday, we play another one and we don’t cry, like we didn’t today.”
Whether Pogba needs to just rest or he needs to heal up from injury, there isn’t much time to work with. Also, United are very injury depleted as it is. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo are all done for the season.
United trail City by just one point for the final UEFA Champions League qualification slot. The Red Devils are also just three points behind Liverpool for third, a team upon which they have two games in hand.
