Midfielder Nemanja Matic has probably been Manchester United’s best player this season. You can make a case for a couple other guys, but most pundits will agree that the Serbian acquired from Chelsea in August has been the MVP.
Naturally then, United and their supporters are very concerned about the developments in last night’s 4-2 win at Watford. The stellar holding midfielder left in the 54′ due to an injury that is muscular in nature.
“Matic is injured, I don’t know how badly,” United manager Jose Mourinho said in postgame.
“For Matic to tell me he wants to be replaced, he does not do that if it is nothing important. It is muscular.”
It remains to be seen how serious and long-term the Nemanja Matic injury is at this point, as there is no further official information available. However, there does seem to be a consensus that he will be out of action for the trip to Arsenal Saturday. We’ll know more when Mourinho talks to the media on Friday for his weekly news conference.
What we do know now is that this would be a huge loss for United, and it could derail their entire season. Fans and pundits alike are expressing these opinions as they weigh in.
