Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said over the weekend that tonight’s EFL Cup Manchester Derby hadn’t given him much thought. He said it was very low on his priority list. Then came the disaster at Chelsea on Sunday. The Blues made a statement in the way that they thrashed United, and now the Red Devils will look to make a statement of their own on Wednesday.
Mourinho said that he hopes his team rises up and becomes “men” for this cup clash against their noisy neighbors.
We just didn’t know how Mourinho would approach this one, in terms of his line-up. Now we know. He’s going all in. The Portugese is fielding the strongest team he can for this one, pretty much. It’s mostly first teamers and starters here, so indeed he’s playing to win.
Marcos Rojo fills in for starting central defender Eric Bailly, who’s out two months with a serious knee injury. Marouane Fellaini, previously thought to be a doubt do to a knee problem of his own, is an available substitute.
