According to the Daily Express, Manchester United are planning a £15 million bid for Torino full-back Matteo Darmian. The Daily Mirror and the Daily Star picked up on this rumor as well. United Manager Louis van Gaal wants to sign the Italian back this January.
Obviously, United’s primary needs are at defense. So who is Matteo Darmian and how exactly does he fit in?
Originally a centre-back, Darmian now primarily plays as a full-back that can operate on either side of the pitch. He hails from the town of Legnano and joined AC Milan’s youth system back in 2000. He spent one season on loan at Padova, before being sold to Sicilian side Palermo in 2010. In 2011, he transferred to Torino (initially on loan), before the move was made permanent in June 2012.
He played for Italy at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Here is the The City don’t think this move is going to happen though, and this is why.
