Manchester United Starting XI Prediction at Southampton FC

Anthony Martial who has two goals in three games thus far for Manchester United this season, suffered a muscular injury in his left thigh during the home loss to Crystal Palace last weekend. The Frenchman now faces a race against time to be fit for the final Premier League clash before the first international break, Saturday at Southampton FC.

If Martial can’t go, and Alexis Sanchez finalizing his move to Inter Milan, options could be limited in attack, and thus creativity will be required by manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer for his selection in the final third.

There are so many ways you can go with this, and I seriously invite you to post your own lineup in the comments section below. Is it time to bench Jesse Lingard? Does Juan Mata come in for him instead?

With Martial out, does Marcus Rashford lead the line?

Who is placed in the central attacking position?

Does 17-year-old Mason Greenwood get a starting nod? Well, there are numerous potential answers to this one, and it will be fascinating to see what happens when the team sheet is posted an hour before kickoff at the St. Mary’s.

Here’s what we came up with.

Marcus Rashford

  1. I think you’ll be proven to be right with your team selection. It’s probably about as strong a team as he can pick. He seems reluctant to chance Gomes but if Martial is out and Mata plays it will hopefully advance Gomes up the pecking order. He’s ready IMO.

  2. Am a man utd fans i don’t like what is going on with my club when we are winning pre season matches, I wrote on my Twitter that this season is going to be very very hard it is not what we see in pre season match we are going to see in premier league I advise ole Gunnar solskjaer to get Bruno fernandes but my advise was invain buying Bruno fernandes can make our team to be strong. the only person that can play along side Paul pogba in that midfield is matic or Bruno fernandes thanks

  3. I see man united troubling soton if a defensive minded midfielder comes to partner Scott. pogba to be used at 10 role in place of lingard. James, rashford and Pereira to lead the attack.

  4. Tough season ahead for Ole
Decent defenders signed, but the team needed more quality signings
The team needs to pull together till the window, then management must reassess
Would like to know what upper management goal is for this season.

  5. Emmanuel Alvin Anokye says

in a 4231 formation,de Gea AWB Victor lindeof Harry maguire, Ashley young my back 4.matic nd mctomminay sits in front on de defence.dan James on de left side of midfield pobga plays as #10 Juan mata on de right side of midfield then rashford up top

  6. For me am agreat man united fan but i don,t understand the tactics of the manager is he playing attacking football or defensive because you can not play attacking fooball without scoring many goals

  7. Ole should wake up. United have play a very good foot ball this seosen. If he will contuen wining juan mata must not be on d bench. Sell lingard.

  8. Omar Seig. says

I do realy think its time to employ Jua mata to increase creativity and posession with pogba.
Or deploy Matic and Mc Tominay then let Pobga upfront and Mata on right flunk.
    Then collect the points.

  9. my solution too this club is this, late ole use fred as a supporting strike,am almight manchestar united fans.Is me Nnamdi

  10. pogba should play up front..mctomminay n perierra should play behind pogba..man utd middle too loose after 3 games..dalot ready to be a defensives midfielder..its time for him to establish himself to a new role..
