It continues to be a very exciting summer at Manchester United, with a whole lot going on. While we still have a bit of time until the preseason exhibition games begin, there is no shortage of topics to discuss today.

So let’s take a spin through the latest news and notes items making the rounds on the internet on this World Cup Final day.

-United central defender Phil Jones was handed a rare start for England Saturday in the World Cup third place game, and it did not go well, both individually and as far as the team was concerned.

Eden Hazard scored the second of Belgium’s two goals in their 2-0 win over England, and he absolutely dominated Jones once again. This led to Phil Jones becoming a top trending term on Twitter, and some of offerings were very funny!

Purposely letting Hazard walk past him to score, making Real Madrid even more likely to bid for him. This causes Chelsea to be much weaker in the Premier League & therefore gives United a better chance at the title. pic.twitter.com/nkIRSrnL4Q

That goal had everything. A lovely, weighted pass from De Bruyne, a cool, measured finish from Hazard, and Phil Jones defending like he's never seen a football before in his life.

Jones just can’t be a bonafide option for England or United moving forward. He just can not.

Congratulations to Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini for helping lead Belgium to their highest World Cup finish in history. Both United players had excellent tournaments. Lukaku had four goals and an assist in six games. He was trending today, however, for something he didn’t do. Big Rom botched a golden scoring opportunity as his first touch let him down.

Fellaini posted on his Twitter account today: “3rd place @fifaworldcup Finals @BelRedDevils !! Big thank you to the team, all the staff who work with us every day and all the fans who have supported us through the tournament. #redtogether”

–Daley Blind is edging closer to his return to Ajax. The two sides have reportedly agreed upon a fee, and it’s expected that an official announcement could come soon. A Dutch media outlet had the scoop on Friday, and now the English media is picking up on it this weekend.
