While the summer transfer window is now closed, players can still leave and join teams abroad up until the 31st. So let’s take a spin through the latest Manchester United news, notes and transfer rumors items making the rounds on the internet right now.
We’ll start with Paul Pogba, and we apologize in advance if this is a topic you’re growing tiresome of. There certainly is a high level of tedium now surrounding his unsettled state and transfer rumors related to it. You have got it applaud the professionalism of the Frenchman right now for taking it in stride and continuing to do his job.
Yesterday brought news of FC Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu refusing to rule out a move for the midfielder. Today, Barcelona director Ariedo Braida said he doesn’t anticipate the Catalan club will make a move for the superstar. So round and round we go with a high chance of more plot twists and turns before La Liga deadline day.
In staying with players who may still depart this summer, United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly wants defenders Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo to stay until January, but won’t stand in the way of their departure either. As originally recorded by Tina Turner and penned by songwriters Albert Hammond and Diane Warren:
If you wanna leave
I won’t beg you to stay
And if you gotta go, darling
Maybe it’s better that way
In other words, it’s up to Darmian and Rojo themselves to decide their futures; reportedly. Both defenders are very unlikely to see themselves getting regular first team selection at Old Trafford, unless there are injuries in the back line.
Given the role that they have played in the team under Mourinho, it’s apparent that they must move elsewhere to be in the starting XI regularly.
Finally, we turn towards another defender, and one who was strongly linked with a move out the exit door at the beginning of the window in Luke Shaw. The English international have overcome so much during his time at Old Trafford and he absolutely made the utmost of his starting assignment in the season opener. Shaw hopes that this is just the start of many more exciting things to come in 2018-19.
Shaw credits a preseason trip to Dubai for his fitness and motivation this season.
