Manchester United drew 1-1 today at home versus Leicester City, putting off the Foxes Premier League title celebration for at least a day. However, the Red Devils really needed to take all three points today in order to stay in the race for top four and UEFA Champions League qualification.
Arsenal won yesterday, so United need to keep pace with the Gunners by continuing their trend of playing very well against the top of the table. (At least, that’s the narrative we’ve heard much of this season, that United excel against the best, and with Jamie Vardy out, three points were there for the taking on paper)
It does help a bit that Manchester City lost to Southampton, but there’s no point in scoreboard watching when United can’t even take care of their own business for themselves.
Three United players were worldwide trending terms on Twitter today, and it was for all the wrong reasons.
Marouane Fellaini escaped booking for this elbow on Robert Huth, but he could face a three match ban for this infraction, which would thus end his season. Marcos Rojo and Jesse Lingard weren’t in the best of form today, and they drew a lot of mentions because of it. Those mentions weren’t very flattering either.
Also blowing up Twitter today was United manager Louis van Gaal, who actually pulled a reporter’s hair in order to answer a question about the Fellaini incident.
First we give you Marcos Rojo:
"I felt I had the better of Marcos [Rojo] today" – Wes Morgan.
Understatement of the century there.

LvG letting Rojo stay on the pitch makes no sense to anyone so why is he?

Rojo situation odd. Van Gaal keen on selling him last yr yet plays him during poorest form when Young and Borthwick-Jackson are fit. #mufc

Rojo can't even make toast, never mind playing LB for Manchester United pic.twitter.com/oCB6We5b9y

And now we give you the Jesse Lingard criticism:

Rojo and Lingard wouldn't get in to Villa's team right now. Rojo is so astoundingly bad.

Jesse Lingard is called "persistent" in 80% of the games I watch. Which is euphemism for not being good enough.

Literally the only reason Lingard starts is because of his work rate. As a footballer he's so ineffective.
