Manchester United attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan picked up a thigh injury while on duty with Armenia during the international break. The national team captain then returned early to United for evaluation and treatment, with the Football Association warning that initial tests on the 27-year-old were “not encouraging”.
The FA statement, released over the weekend, read: “As reported, senior national team captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan received an injury against Czech Republic and as a result was unable to continue the match.”
Mkhitaryan has had a very slow start to his Old Trafford career, accruing just 59 Premier League minutes from his three substitute appearances. He affirmed that he is a doubt for the big Manchester Derby versus City on Saturday.
Mkhitaryan took to his official verified Instagram account to provide the following update. He wrote: “I continue extensively my rehabilitation, but I’m not sure yet if I will be fit for the derby this weekend.
“I’m motivated as ever and plan to put all my energy to be in great shape as soon as possible…a simple devotion to what I love most – football! Thanks for sending me your love & support.”
